NEW YORK (WABC) -- As we approach 2025, the New York City Police Foundation is introducing the NYPD Canine and Friends calendar.
All of the K-9s and horses from the department's Mounted Unit are front and center in the calendar, along with their human counterparts.
Ranger is part of the NYPD'S K-Unit and also a super model.
"It's such a way to highlight the hard work they are doing throughout the year and honor those fallen officer who many of these dogs are named after," said NYC Police Foundation's Taylor Kahn.
The 13-month calendar spans from January 2025 to January 2026 and features photos of the NYPD's four-legged partners in action.
Officer David Matos tells me Ranger's day job is sniffing out explosives.
"What does he do when he does detect something? Ranger will indicate an odor, he'll sit and wait there and he will indicate to me, he's found something," added Matos.
Each of the NYPD's K-9s is named in honor of a fallen officer. The pups are therapy dogs providing critical emotional support for NYPD employees, and the program is one of the largest units of its kind in the country.
"Introducing these dogs, you could have the biggest room of the toughest people and they just break down and lay down with the dogs," said NYPD inspector Mark Wachter.
The calendar is $35, and proceeds will benefit ongoing Police Foundation programs and initiatives.
The NYPD said that they make a wonderful holiday gift!
